HISTORY

THE RCH STORY... SO FAR

Whilst the name Red Carnation Hotels is relatively young in the industry some of our hotels have been long established, one dating back to 1872, and collectively all providing generations of experience in the art of hospitality.

The Chesterfield Mayfair is where it all started back in 1984 when the property was acquired from the London hotel giant 'Grand Met'. A couple of years later The Chesterfield had a 'sister' hotel - The Chesterfield Palm Beach in sunny Florida - an unlikely 'combo' but twinned together in offering quality, luxurious and comfortable accommodations, friendly and attentive service in two unbeatable locations. These soon became the hallmarks of every Red Carnation Hotel property.

In the mid to end 90's - a flurry of growth saw another four London hotels added to the collection - The Montague on the Gardens by the British Museum, The Rubens at the Palace (Buckingham), The Milestone Hotel and Apartments in Kensington and 41 opposite The Royal Mews of Buckingham Palace. The latter two are five star deluxe properties, both being accredited 5 red stars by the AA and going on to gain a string of awards and accolades.

Next stop was away from London. This time Geneva, Switzerland in October 2001 - another five star property on the lake itself, the famous Hotel d'Angleterre. Red Carnation Hotels went even further a field in early 2002 - all the way to the dramatic backdrop of The Twelve Apostles mountain range in Cape Town, South Africa. Right on the Atlantic's edge too - the hotel was renamed Twelve Apostles and has established itself in a short space of time as the leading five star deluxe hotel in the region following the complete renovation and development of The Sanctuary Spa.

Back  to the UK and a sleepy little village in the heart of the Dorset countryside, Evershot. The quintessentially English Summer Lodge, a 23 room rural retreat with truly fine, gastronomic dining joined the Red Carnation Hotel collection.

The latest London addition to this magnificent collection is The Egerton House Hotel, located in a secluded position in Knightsbridge, London.  This 29 room luxurious hotel has a country house, homely feel, and is just a short walk from Harrods.

Finally, just 15 km north of Durban, situated in Umhlanga, South Africa, the most recent acquisition is the landmark Oyster Box Hotel on the edge of the Indian Ocean with a fabulous beachfront. Following an extensive two-year rebuild, the Oyster Box with all the luxurious comforts, elegance and charm of a bygone era, together with its iconic lighthouse and breathtaking views, re-opened in 2009

There you have it - quite some growth in a short number of years and a few more unique properties are sure to be added to this every special collection. Each hotel has it's own character and style but the one thing that sets these hotel apart can be summed up in just three words.."Service, Service, Service".

The best hotel that we have stayed in, in London, to date. Staff are a credit to your hotel.
