Oliver Reed: Wild Thing at St James Theatre

  • Category: Music & Theatre

The critically acclaimed stage show Oliver Reed: Wild Thing is to be performed at the St James Theatre from July 30th to August 18th 2013.

Written by Mike Davies and Rob Crouch, the play stars Crouch in the title role of the legendary Hollywood hellraiser, whose reputation as one of Britain's great actors was matched only by the infamy of his off-screen antics.

Known for his starring roles in classic films such as Oliver!, The Three Musketeers and Gladiator, Reed struggled with alcoholism throughout his life, often engaging in bar fights and appearing on live TV under the influence.

Set in Malta in 1999, just before the end of his life, the play sees Reed enjoying a few drinks and sharing stories from his amazing life, including his discovery that he was a descendant of Peter the Great, the success he enjoyed following Oliver!, his alcohol-soaked outings with Keith Moon and some of his more embarrassing TV chat show appearances.

Oliver Reed: Wild Thing has earned widespread acclaim for the performance of Crouch in the lead role and for the humour and sensitivity of its writing, providing a warm and affectionate portrait of a beloved public figure in all his flawed glory.

Mark Reed, the late actor's son, has praised the show as "factual, fun and superbly entertaining - an insight into Oliver Reed".

Directed by Kate Bannister, the play runs for 70 minutes and is suitable for audience members of over the age of 14.

Tickets are available online for between £15 and £22.50, with both evening and matinee performances scheduled over the course of its run at the St James Theatre.

The Egerton House Hotel is a nearby luxury London hotel that offers a number of appealing deals for those planning to attend the show, including the 3 Nights for the Price of 2 offer, which is available to anyone staying in a suite.
