Event: St George's Day
Date: April 23rd 2008
St George is best known as the English patron saint who slew a dragon, however his fame is known throughout the world and the dragon-slayer is also the patron saint of Venice, Genoa, Portugal and Catalonia.
However, guests of luxury London hotel the Chesterfield Mayfair wishing to celebrate in a traditional English style on April 23rd 2008 can rest assured that there are plenty of events taking place in the capital to suit their needs.
In 2007, the Mayor of London celebrated St George's Day by hosting a number of free city-wide events - and it is anticipated that 2008 will see festivities in much the same style.
Highlights last year included a celebration of English humour - with 5,567 Monty Python-inspired people managing to break the coconut orchestra world record in Trafalgar Square - as well as celebrations of Shakespeare's birthday - which falls on St George's Day - at the Globe Theatre.
Other events included a festival for the patron saint at Covent Garden and a parade at the Cenotaph.
London Town reports that this year's celebrations are likely to include traditional English Punch and Judy shows and Morris dancing.
