Date: April 21st 2008 to April 24th 2008

Part of the 31st London Handel Festival, the fully staged opera will feature Ruby Hughes as Atalanta, the princess who fled her royal life in order to pursue a life of hunting.

The opera was composed by Handel in 1736 as a celebration of the wedding of Frederick, the Prince of Wales, to Princess Augusta of Saxe-Coburg.

Britten Theatre is the backdrop for three special performances on April 21st, 23rd and 24th. The opera will be sung in Italian with subtitles.

Cast members also include Madeleine Pierard as Meleagro and Ben Johnson as Aminta the swain. Laurence Cummings is the conductor and the director is Christopher Cowell.

Handel's Joshua and La Resurrezione are two other highlights of the festival to honour the works of the German-born composer.
