Handel and the Divas

Event: Handel and the Divas at the Handel House Museum
Dates: April 30th until November 16th 2008

A new exhibition is being held at the Handel House Museum that may be of interest to female travellers staying at luxury London hotel the 41.

Handel and the Divas at the Handel House Museum will be on show from April 30th until November 16th 2008 and will look at the careers, rivalries, successes, failures and scandals of the first divas of 18th-century London.

The original divas consisted of opera stars such as Margherita Durastanti, Francesca Cuzzoni, Faustina Bordoni, Susannah Cibber and Kitty Clive.

Coined in the 19th century, it is said that the term diva was inspired by such female opera singers as a complimentary term.

However, their arrogant and often scandalous behaviour led to the word becoming notorious and reflective of prima donna-behaviour.

The event is likely to be a hit with divas and more modest guests staying at luxury London hotel the 41.
