London Mela 2008

Event: London Mela 2008
Date: August 10th 2008

The word Mela originates from the Indian sub continent and is derived from the definition of "to meet".

This August, guests staying at luxury London hotel the Montague will be able to see how apt this definition is if they attend London Mela 2008 in Gunnersbury Park.

Last year, the event saw around 55,000 visitors gather in Ealing for what has been described by LondonTown as "one of the biggest celebrations of Asian music and culture outside the Indian subcontinent".

Mela celebrations provide visitors with a feast for the eyes, ears and nose with fantastic decorations, moving dance displays and a variety of bazaars and food stalls.

London Mela first took place in 2003 and is now an established part of London's cultural calendar.

Last year saw Asian Network DJ's Adil Ray, Noreen and DJ Kayper hosting from the main stage while other attractions included a food and craft marketplace demonstrating produce from "all corners of the globe".
