Coppelia Ballet at Artscape

Event: Coppelia Ballet at Artscape
Date: May 13th until 15th and 20th until 22nd 2008

If you are taking a trip to Cape Town in the coming months and are staying at luxury hotel the Twelve Apostles, be sure to see the Coppelia Ballet at the Artscape Theatre.

Affectionately known as the Toy-Shop Ballet, this production relates the story of toy maker Dr Coppelius who invents a life-like doll that is mistaken for a real girl by the villagers.

The Cape Town City Ballet Youth Project will perform Coppelia at the theatre between May 13th and May 22nd 2008.

Perfect for those on family breaks in Cape Town, children will be enthralled as Dr Coppelius displays the doll, known as Coppelia, in the window of his house.

Coppelia sits with a book in her lap and looks as if she is reading, as the ballet dancers glide about to pre-recorded music.

A delightful fairytale for youngsters and grownups staying at the Red Carnation Hotel in Cape Town, Coppelia runs alongside Veronica Paeper's three-act ballet, The Merry Widow.

The Merry Widow - a tale of money, romance and intrigue - runs from May 10th until 25th 2008.
