Orange Prize Readings

Event: Orange Prize Readings at Southbank Centre
Date: June 2nd 2008

Literary guests staying at luxury London hotel the Chesterfield Mayfair this spring may wish to visit the Southbank Centre to sit in at the Orange Prize Readings, a highlight of the live literature year.

Enjoy exclusive readings as well as the chance to meet the shortlisted writers and take part in discussions on June 2nd 2008.

According to the Southbank Centre, last year's event was a sell out and is this year to be introduced by the Orange Prize chair of judges, Kirsty Lang.

The Orange Broadband Prize for Fiction is now in its thirteenth year and aims to celebrate "excellence, originality and accessibility" in writing.

Ms Lang noted that all six short-listed books passed the test of being a novel that the panel felt passionately about and one that they might pass onto a friend.

The shortlist for 2008 includes Nancy Huston's Fault Lines, Sadie Jones' The Outcast, Charlotte Mendelson's When We Were Bad, Heather O'Neill's Lullabies for Little Criminals, Rose Tremain's The Road Home and Patricia Wood's Lottery.

Last year, the event was won by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie for Half of a Yellow Sun, a novel about the struggle by Biafra to establish an independent republic in Nigeria.
