The Red Bull Flugtag originated in Austria in 1992 and has since taken off all around the world.

Now for the second time, the Red Bull Flugtag returns to the UK and will take place at The Serpentine in London's Hyde Park on Saturday June 7th 2008.

If you are staying at nearby Red Carnation Hotel the Rubens at the Palace this June and wish to attend the event make sure to register for tickets on the Red Bull Flugtag website beforehand as it will be a fully ticketed but free event.

The Red Bull Flugtag London sees London's most zany inventors converge around the lakes in order to test out their exotic flying machines.

Competitors will launch their prized planes over the edge of precipices into the waters of the Serpentine. Entries are then judged on how far each machine flies over the water, creativity, design and best pre flight performance.

While it is too late now to enter your own flying machine, if you register for tickets and are selected in the ballot, this event makes for a great day out for those on family breaks in London.

Described as a highlight of the summer, around 80,000 spectators turned out for the last event in London.

If you successfully procure a ticket, the fun starts at 13:00 BST but it's best to arrive earlier on in order to secure yourself a spot with a good view.
