Event: Martin Creed Duveens Commission at the Tate
Date: July 1st to November 16th 2008.
Art fans may wish to check into luxury London hotel the Rubens this summer, following the Tate Gallery's announcement of its latest commission.
Artist Martin Creed has been brought in by the Tate to create an entirely new piece, to be officially unveiled to the public on June 30th and put on display in the Dunveen Galleries until November 16th.
Creed is one of the UK's foremost contemporary artists, famous for his thought-provoking and engaging works, which play with minimalist structures.
His Work No. 227, which featured a barren room in which the lights went on and off, was a controversial Turner Prize winner in 2001.
Previous recipients of commissions from the gallery have included artists as diverse in style and genre as Mark Wellinger, Anya Gallaccio and Mona Hatoum.
Tate Britain is the UK's national gallery of art and houses pieces from as early as the 1500s, including special permanent collections featuring the works of Blake, Constable and Turner.
