Event: London Poetry Festival at Waterloo St John's Church
Date: August 8th to 11th 2008
The fourth London Poetry Festival will be held at the recently restored Waterloo St John's Church.
Growing out of the Poet's Letter Magazine Poetry Performance and Live Music Series, the festival has come a long way since its those inaugural recitals at the Poetry Cafe in Covent Garden.
Since its inaugural edition in 2005, the event has grown and added the Festival Poets in Residence Programme, which is designed to encourage and promote emerging talent in the poetry world.
This year there will be six resident poets at this celebration of contemporary English poetry, including Anjan Saha, Claire Askew, Helen Long, Nnorom Azuonye and Sharon Harriott.
The festival will take place from August 8th to 11th - those planning to attend might wish to consider luxury London hotel the Rubens as a base for their visit.
St John's Church was built in 1824 to celebrate victory in the Napoleonic wars and has been restored twice since it suffered a firebomb attack in 1940.
