Mayor's Thames Festival

Event: Mayor's Thames Festival at Southbank Centre
Date: September 13th 2008 and September 14th 2008

This September instead of lamenting the passing of summer why not celebrate the start of the colourful season that is autumn at the Mayor's Thames Festival, taking place between Tower Bridge and Westminster.

Described by the Evening Standard as "London's biggest end of summer party", guests staying at luxury London hotel the Milestone can enjoy the festivities on September 13th and 14th 2008.

The Mayor's Thames Festival focuses around London's famous river and culminates in an open air firework display. However there is more to this festival than pyrotechnics.

Events and street theatre will take place up and down the river and this year's event will also feature choirs and music to mark its tenth anniversary.

Themed feasts will take place on Southwark Bridge, while open air ball dances and an end of festival Night Carnival will take place.

Established in 1997 with the aim of providing a free celebration for London, the event is open to all who wish to enjoy culture.

"Most of all, we want people not just to be spectators, but to be active participants in this spectacular London event," organisers note.

According to LondonTown, the event attracts in excess of 500,000 visitors each year.
