Event: Donmar West End: Chekhov's Ivanov at Wyndham's Theatre, Westminster
Date: September 12th until November 29th
For the chance to see Kenneth Branagh perform under Michael Grandage's direction in the capital this autumn, guests checking into luxury London hotel the Chesterfield Mayfair in September, October and November should visit Wyndham's Theatre in Westminster.
Tom Stoppard's version of Anton Chekhov's Ivanov is playing at the Donmar Warehouse fringe venue from September 12th until November 29th 2008.
Chekhov's Ivanov is described as a "morally complex" play, and portrays a landowner who has become jaded with life.
Chekhov is reportedly known as the "Russian Shakespeare" and the protagonist in this adaptation of his work is Kenneth Branagh.
Branagh's character falls into debt and suffers a crisis in his marriage and his life becomes a shambolic existence of negotiating loans and dealing with the prospect of petty love affairs, gossip and intrigue.
Described by the theatre as an "explosive portrait of a man plagued with self-doubt and despair", the performance reflects the status of Russia "on the brink of change".
LondonTown recommends early booking for this series of performances.
