Frolic with Huang Yong Ping

Event: A new installation examining the opium wars
Date: June 25th until September 21st 2008

For lovers of art, this latest exhibition by Huang Yong Ping is an outstanding opportunity to witness a contemporary fusion of eastern and western influences.

In this fusion of east and west, Huang Yong Ping is able to truly capture a snapshot of the opium warns between 1839 and 1842, which are also known as the Anglo-Chinese Wars.

Entitled Frolic, the installation takes its name from a cargo ship destined for travel between China, the UK and British India.

Indeed, one of the installation's most stunning features is the presence of a collection of stoves and palettes, in addition to a number of large opium needles.

"The central area of the gallery is occupied by a life size sculpture of Lord Palmerston, who served twice as British Prime Minister and is widely considered as the initiator of the Opium Wars in China in 1840 and 1858," said the Barbican.

After such an intoxicating cultural experience, why not relax and unwind at the Montague on the Gardens luxury London hotel.
