Event: Hadrian: Empire and Conflict at the British Museum
Date: July 24th 2008 until October 26th 2008
A special exhibition is opening at the British Museum, close to luxury London hotel the Montague on the Gardens, this July.
From July 24th 2008, visitors to London will be able to explore the "life, love and legacy" of one of the greatest emperors of the Roman Empire - Hadrian (AD 117–138).
Hadrian: Empire and Conflict at the British Museum will explore Hadrian's reign, at a time when his empire comprised of much of Europe, north Africa and the Middle East.
As a military leader Hadrian was often viewed as ruthless and he quashed many attempted rebellions and brought much stability to the territory that had been "critically overstretched" by Trajan, his predecessor, the museum notes.
However, his interests also lay in other areas than war and empires. Hadrian was a cultured man with a keen passion for architecture and Greek literature and the exhibition - of which an introduction trailer can be viewed - features objects from 28 museums from around the world.
Luxury London hotel the Montague is offering a special Hadrian package, valid throughout the course of the exhibition.
With the Hadrian package, guests staying at the Montague can enjoy luxury accommodation in addition to two entry tickets to the Hadrian: Empire and Conflict Exhibition and an accompanying exhibition catalogue.
