Event: Ondine
Date: November 29th until May 28th
Frederick Ashton's Ondine celebrates its 50th anniversary with a revival at the Royal Opera House this winter.
Originally made for Margot Fonteyn in 1958, the story surrounds the water sprite Ondine and the young man Palemon with whom she falls in love.
When she feels the human's heartbeat she is amazed, not having one herself, and he is equally captivated by her and leaves his current beau Berta to make Ondine his wife.
Things begin to go wrong for the newlyweds soon after however, as while out at sea a severe storm sees Ondine lost overboard.
Palemon survives the wreckage but believes his bride has been lost and thus returns to marry Berta.
The audience see Ondine return only to have her world crushed when she discovers her husband's infidelity.
What began as a beautiful tale ends tragically when she kisses Palemon - a kiss which takes his life.
Audiences can look forward to a gripping but heartbreaking production celebrating love and all the trials and tribulations it involves.
Following a truly epic show, visitors will need somewhere equally spectacular to stay and a room at the luxury London hotel the Montague on the Gardens will provide all the comfort one needs.
With the establishment's Autumn Leaves package, guests can enjoy a two-course autumn dinner before the show, a glass of wine with the meal and a full English breakfast each morning.
