The Russian Linesman at the Southbank Centre

Event: Mark Wallinger's The Russian Linesman
Date: February 18th until May 4th

Art lovers will have the chance to explore the work and mind of one of Britain's most unpredictable and intellectually-curious artists at the Southbank Centre next month.

Mark Wallinger is the latest in a long line of creators who have curated a showcase for the Hayward Touring programme, a series of displays which travel around galleries across the country.

The Russian Linesman is a project which is focused on the liminal, a concept which encompasses physical, political and metaphysical ideas.

It takes its name from the football official at the 1966 World Cup football final between Germany and England.

The match was famous for a goal which the Germans saw as unjust and the English believed was legitimate.

Finding inspiration in this event, the exhibition will examine ideas about boundaries and identities and how rites of passage and transitional states lead people to new places and ideas.

The showcase is likely to provoke deep thought and art lovers can ensure they have a classy and charming place to consider what they have learnt by booking a suite at the luxury London hotel the Rubens at the Palace.

Guests enjoying a few days away can opt for the It's Showtime package and take advantage of two tickets to a theatre of their choice, as well as a meal beforehand and a full English breakfast each day.
