Event: Death and the King's Horseman
Date: April 28th until July 27th
The year is 1943 and Nigeria is still under the occupation of the British colonial powers, who have outlawed many rituals which the native people held close to their hearts.
However, the rules laid down by the invaders are not what stops Elesin Oba from committing suicide.
It is the fact that he is enjoying life as the king's horseman.
One of the ancient rituals in Nigerian culture was that the horseman must escort the king to his ancestors once he has died, in other words, the sidekick is expected to take his own life to be united with the royal.
The problem is Oba is loving life, floating through the marketplace, flirting with women and enjoying his existence.
Written by Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, the story examines the essence of corruption and the power of human will.
For visitors to the capital, Death and the King's Horseman could be the perfect play to sit and enjoy.
Combine this with a stay at the luxury London hotel the Rubens at the Palace and it could make for a wonderful weekend.
The hotel's Go See London package is perfect for tourists looking to get to know this great city from end to end.
As well as a continental breakfast guests can look forward to a sightseeing tour of the capital and two tickets to the London Eye.
