Event: L'elisir d'amore
Date: May 12th until May 25th
Red wine is the perfect tipple to enjoy in a romantic setting, but could it really be described as a 'love potion'?
According to Dr Dulcamara, it can.
This charlatan salesman is just one of many humorous characters who make up the wonderfully humorous and charming play L'elisir d'amore, which is being revived by the Royal Opera House for the first time.
Guests at the luxury London hotel the Montague on the Gardens could get two tickets to see the show, subject to availability, by booking the It's Showtime package, which also includes a full English breakfast in the morning and a pre-theatre dinner.
Written in 1832 and set to Gaetano Donizetti's glorious score, the production will transport audience members to a quaint Italian village, complete with Vespas and a stray dog.
The action centres on Dr Dulcamara, an unscrupulous salesman who takes advantage of the naïve and nervous Nemorio.
Nemorio is in love.
The problem is the object of his desire is none other than Adina, a wealthy women set to marry the dashing Sergeant Belcore.
Despite lacking his good looks and money, Nemorio is confident.
He has Dr Culamara's 'love potion', which he is certain will help him win Adina's heart.
While that is far from a foregone conclusion, it is a safe bet to say that audiences will laugh all night long as he tries.
