Peter Grimes at the English National Opera, London Coliseum

Event: Peter Grimes at the English National Opera

Dates: May 11th to May 30th

Benjamin Britten's first major masterpiece Peter Grimes returns to the stage at the London Coliseum, with the English National Opera's (ENO's) Edward Gardner conducting and Stuart Skelton in the title role.

Set in Suffolk, Peter Grimes follows the story of an "anti-hero" local fisherman who is thought to mistreat his apprentices and is regarded as an outsider by the other villagers, whose hostility towards him mounts throughout the production.

The ENO describes the production as "the most significant British opera in over two centuries" and praises its "sustained beauty".

Joining Skelton on stage will be Amanda Roocroft in the role of Ellen Orford, Gerald Finley as Captain Balstrode and Della Jones as Auntie.

David Alden, perhaps best known for his award-winning Jenufa and Lucia di Lammermoor, also for the ENO, will helm the project.

People wanting to enjoy a trip to the opera could take advantage of luxury London hotel the Egerton's Get More For Your Stay package, which sees guests staying for two nights or more receiving complimentary champagne, a Harrods shopping spree, a late checkout on departure day or a romantic turn down.
