Un ballo in Maschera at the Royal Opera House

Event: Un ballo in Maschera
Date: June 26th until July 17th

Un ballo in Maschera is one of Giuseppe Verdi's most fascinating pieces of work, containing forbidden love, murder and political intrigue.

Riccardo is a man who is in love with Amelia, the wife of his trusted friend and advisor Renato.

While reviewing the list of attendees for the upcoming masked ball, he is delighted to see Amelia's name on there.

Unaware of his employer's love for his spouse, Renato continues to watch out for his boss and warns him that there are people plotting his death and demise.

Riccardo's attention is turned when magistrates interrupt him to ask for the banishment of Ulrica, a fortune-teller who has been accused of indulging in dark arts.

Unconvinced by their claims, he goes to her dwelling to see for himself, advising his loyal subjects to disguise themselves and meet him there.

Ulrica is telling the fortune of a sailor named Silvano when word arrives that Amelia is on her way to seek her help, something which pleases Riccardo, who duly hides and listens to her problem.

She has an undying love which causes her heartache and the fortune-teller advises her to pick a herb which grows near the gallows which will ease her pain.

After Amelia leaves, Riccardo demands to have his fortune told too, and a reluctant Ulrica warns him that his life will be taken by the next man who shakes his hand.

None of his subjects oblige but, when Renato enters the room, he does and it is his hand which later kills Riccardo.

Set to a glorious score, Un ballo in Maschera promises a great evening of entertainment and, afterwards, audience members can head to a suite at the luxury London hotel the Chesterfield Mayfair.

The 3 Nights for the Price of 2 Suites package is just perfect for theatre-goers, giving them a free night to enjoy the luxury just a little bit longer.
