Event: National Poetry Slam
Date: August 4th to 8th
Poetry fans travelling to the US this August can attend a meeting of likeminded people at West Palm Beach.
The National Poetry Slam will take place from the 4th to the 8th of the month, with people from across the US gathering to share their work.
Running since 1990, the event sees writers battling it out in the competition, with 80 teams of between three and five poets competing.
The week will see daily contests happening at venues along Clematis Street, which will culminate in a grand final to be held at the Palm Beach County Convention Center.
Regional competitions are held before the event, which determines who will be each team.
However, people who want to watch the competition can also take part in various elements, including poetry workshops and a head-to-head haiku battle.
Tickets for the event range from $3 (£1.80) per day, $5 for late–night events and $20 for the final.
After a tough day of listening to poetry, attendees can stay at the Chesterfield Palm Beach hotel, where the Suite Dreams offer is available.
The package includes a bottle of Champagne, chocolate strawberries and complimentary bathrobes to take home.
