Promises Promises at the Soho Theatre

Event: Promises Promises
Date: March 2nd until the 13th

Maggie Brodie is not everyone's cup of tea and when she is called by a school to cover a class, she knows that she was the absolute last choice for the role.

While she may have a disreputable past, Maggie is a teacher who knows her way around the classroom and she gladly accepts the role.

Not that the headmaster cares one bit for her vast experience, taking every opportunity he can to patronise her and put her down.

Never one to back away, Maggie perseveres for the sake of the children and one kid in particular.

When she walks into the classroom, she is instantly drawn to a Somalian girl who does not utter a single word.

Her stony silence infuriates Maggie until she learns about the tragic situation the poor child finds herself in.

The young girl is possessed, or so her family and community believe, and she finds herself a lonely and desperate figure short of love and affection.

Maggie, however, is not having any of it and takes the child under her wing.

Unfortunately, nobody else seems interested in the girl's plight, forcing Maggie to take serious action.

Promises Promises is the latest offering from Scottish playwright Douglas Maxwell and confronts some rather unpleasant truths about the society in which we live.

After the play has ended, visitors can make their way back to the nearby luxury London hotel the Chesterfield Mayfair and enjoy the delights of the Mayfair Weekends package.

These include a complimentary bottle of Champagne, traditional afternoon tea for two, a full English breakfast to start each day, a late checkout until 18:00 GMT along with a complimentary newspaper and WiFi.
