Treasures of Lambeth Palace Library at Lambeth Palace

Event: Treasures of Lambeth Palace Library
Date: May 17th to July 23rd

James I once described Lambeth Palace Library as a 'monument of fame' in his kingdom, while Peter the Great said on a visit in 1698 that no other building in England astonished him as much.

One of the oldest buildings in the capital, Lambeth Palace Library is the record office of the Archbishops of Canterbury and a site of extraordinary national importance.

This year, it will celebrate its 400th anniversary with a fascinating exhibition of manuscripts, archives and books, many of which have never been displayed before.

Visitors will see how the collections have developed since 1610 and learn about the history surrounding those who owned or studied them as aids to prayer and devotion.

History lovers will be in their element, with the MacDurnan Gospels, the Lambeth Bible, a very rare edition of the Babylonian Talmud - which survived a 1553 Papal Bull ordering all copies to be destroyed - and the warrant for the execution of Mary Queen of Scots all on display.

It will certainly give visitors plenty to talk about and what better way to discuss the joys of the exhibition than over a three-course table d'hote dinner for two?

Guests staying at the luxury London hotel the 41 can do just that if they book the Get More From Your Stay package.

Those who prefer can opt for a romantic turndown, complete with chocolate-dipped strawberries and massage oils, a bottle of Laurent Perrier, Champagne afternoon tea the following day or a late checkout until 18:00 GMT instead.
