The Geneva International Music Competition at Victoria Hall

Event: The Geneva International Music Competition at Victoria Hall
Date: November 4th - 18th

The chance to experience one of the world's oldest and most prestigious music competitions will be on offer to those who are planning a trip to Geneva this November.

Taking place between November 4th and 18th at Victoria Hall, this year's Concours de Geneve - or Geneva International Music Competition - sees young pianists and oboists compete to win the vote of a jury.

Guests staying at luxury Geneva hotel the Hotel d'Angleterre will have the chance to see some of the best young performers in the world, as the competition is only open to those who were born on or after October 30th 1980.

Entrants from Asian countries dominate the piano competition, while the oboe event has more of a European flavour, with many of the musicians competing originating from France.

The competition was founded in 1939 and has since gone on to join similar events in Munich, Brussels and Prague as one of the world's most respected music events.

It is unique when compared to some alternatives in that it has a multi-disciplinary approach, with 26 different forms of music being represented since its inception.

Last year's event focused on voice and percussion, while voice and string quartet will be the subject of the 2011 competition.

The Hotel d'Angleterre is located only a short distance from Victoria Hall and guests who book the Get More From Your Stay package will receive a buffet breakfast each morning, as well as one of either a chilled bottle of local white wine, two tickets to the Patek Philippe Museum, a romantic turndown on one evening or a traditional afternoon tea for two.  ADNFCR-596-ID-800050217-ADNFCR
