Summer Lodge announces 2009 Wine Dinner programme

Summer Lodge, the luxury Relais & Châteaux hotel in Evershot, Dorset, has just unveiled its scintillating programme of Wine Dinners for 2009; each arranged by the hotel’s cellar master, Eric Zwiebel, a UK Sommelier of the Year, runner up in the Best Sommelier in the World competition 2007, and Ruinart Third Best Sommelier in Europe 2006.

These unique dinners, which take place on the first Tuesday of the month, will explore some of the world’s great wine regions from Eric‘s native Alsace all the way to Cloudy Bay, New Zealand. They are both educational and convivial and naturally a little sybaritic too, and to all of them Eric brings his highly individual blend of erudition, expertise, humour and charm.

The wines of Ascheri in Piedmont; Au Bon Climat in California; Cape Mentelle of Margaret River, Australia; and Veuve Clicquot all feature on a calendar that every month offers something truly exciting. One particular highlight of the year will be Eric’s black tie Five Sommelier’s Dinner in August, when he is joined by a team of friends – some of the best sommeliers in the country – to share  with guests wines from the traditionally famous to the new and innovative.

An exquisite four-course menu, created by Summer Lodge Chef StevenTitman, will complement the five different wines sampled at each dinner. “A menu so delicious it was worthy of a standing ovation“, was how Waitrose Food Illiustrated recently described the dining at Summer Lodge.

Evenings start at 7 pm with apéritifs and an introduction to the featured region’s wines. Places are limited and early booking is genuinely advised to avoid disappointment. A Special Wine Dinner accommodation package is available from £210 per person.
