You can't beat Old Mayfair. There's something comforting about oak panelling and staff who remember your name on a return visit. Simple dishes work best perfect smoked salmon, properly sliced at the table, saddle of venison with New Forset ceps and a great roast rib of beef from the trolley. It's a big-hearted, generous, welcoming sort of place and they do a cracking good-value set lunch
