Pack for a Purpose

Pack for a Purpose partner with the Amy Foundation, which aims to prevent youth violence by providing meaningful development programmes for young people. They provide the bare essential and goods for children to learn during their early childhood development phase.

Championing the philosophy, ‘Small space. Little effort. Big impact,’ Pack for a Purpose is an initiative that allows travellers to make a meaningful contribution to the destination they’re visiting. The Twelve Apostles Hotel is proud to work alongside this social responsibility project, which asks guests to spare a little room in their suitcase in order to pack medical or educational supplies as well as pens, toys and other small items that could benefit the local community. Suggested supply lists are available for guests to view online before they travel, allowing them to choose items–  from paints and paintbrushes to chess sets and musical instruments – that they think will best meet the requirements of the recipients.

Pack for a Purpose

Located in Cape Town, the Twelve Apostles and Pack for a Purpose partner with the Amy Foundation, which aims to prevent youth violence by providing meaningful development programmes for young people aged 6-18 from the region’s Townships. With the help of the Twelve Apostles and its guests, the charity is bringing about positive change in the lives of many local young people. Keith Holshausen of Lazy Lizard Travel, who visited the hotel recently and delivered a suitcase of 20kg, explains that ‘to be able to provide the bare essential goods for children to learn during their early childhood development phase is the least we can do, and we appreciate that these items go to the most needy schools in Cape Town in partnership with The Amy Foundation.’

The Twelve Apostles’ General Manager, Michael Nel, is also heavily involved with the charity and witnesses its benefits on a regular basis, ‘I have the honour and privilege of handing over all the Pack for a Purpose stationary and educational games and toys to Kevin Chaplin from The Amy Foundation, and I’m able to see how they use these items at the Early Childhood Development centres around our informal settlements. The joy these contributions bring to the little boys and girls makes being part of this initiative so rewarding and we hope to continue this for many years to come.’
