Bursts of confetti, clusters of balloons, live music and hordes of merrymakers flood the streets of London’s West End for the annual New Year’s Day Parade. Troupes of more than 8,000 costumed performers include acrobats, marching bands, cheerleaders and dancers, alongside classic cars and vintage vehicles beeping their way through the crowds. It may be a uniquely Scottish tradition, but the atmospheric Burns Night events hosted in London on 25th January bring a quintessentially northern atmosphere to the capital. A nod to the revered poet and national icon Robert Burns, who was born on this day in 1759, it’s an evening of dramatic readings, bagpipes and lively ceilidh dances throughout the city. Be sure to warm up with a wee dram at The Cigar Terrace.
