With its delectable spa and position above the Atlantic Ocean, The Twelve Apostles Hotel is the ideal destination for a relaxing break, but it’s also full of things to keep active guests happy. Whether you’re taken with the idea of exploring the famous Cape Peninsula in a vintage motorcycle sidecar, exploring the nearby wine making region of Constantia by bike or snorkelling with a colony of Cape Fur Seals, the hotel is happy to arrange the best activities that Cape Town has to offer.
Tour the Peninsula on a motorcycle sidecar
The Cape Peninsula is one of the most dramatic and beautiful coastlines to explore, however you choose to see it. But there are few experiences more memorable than a sidecar journey along its rugged cliffs. The hotel recommends Cape Sidecar Adventures, who offer two-hour trips as well as half and full day options and extended trips. The customisable half-day option includes an impossibly scenic ride along the Atlantic Seaboard as well as the world-famous Chapman’s Peak Drive and a traditional lunch of fish and chips in Simon’s Town.
Taking place just in front of The Twelve Apostles, visitors won’t have to travel very far to experience the thrill of seal snorkelling. Combining the beauty of Cape Town’s Atlantic coastline with the playfulness and vitality of the region’s Cape Fur Seals, the action takes place at the sea colony in Oudekraal and involves a maximum of eight participants. As well as getting up close to the charming seals, expect to see penguins, dolphins and whales as well.
Hiking Table Mountain or Lions Head
A must-do activity for travellers visiting Cape Town, the views from both Table Mountain and Lions Head are some of the most iconic in South Africa. Whilst visitors can opt for a cable car to transport them to the top of Table Mountain, there are also plenty of scenic hiking routes to follow. Using a guide is recommended in order to get the most out of the experience, and OTC Adventures offers highly experienced guides for all fitness abilities.
Hout Bay Market
Along with plenty of pretty fishing bays, idyllic Hout Bay Harbour is also home to the Hout Bay Market, loved by both locals and visitors for its tasty gourmet offerings and handmade crafts. Located about five minutes from the hotel, the space was once a factory that had fallen into disrepair, but it’s now home to over 100 traders selling everything from antiques and leather goods to wood-fired pizza and fresh seafood. Visiting on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday evening is highly recommended as the venue stages live music performances.
South Africa is famous for its wine production, and guests can get a taste of what it’s all about at Constantia Winelands, which are just a 20-minute drive from the hotel. One of the highlights of the region and the best activities near Cape Town, it’s hard not to fall in love with the stunning Constantia Valley. Meander along on an electric bike or opt for a chauffeur driven car and sample the fruits of some of the most exclusive and established vineyards in South Africa, with vineyards dating back as far as the 1650s. The area is well known for its exceptional Sauvignon Blanc and robust reds.
The Twelve Apostles Hotel Sports Buddies programme allows guests to enjoy a sport of their choice, accompanied by a member of staff from the hotel, and includes biking, hiking, jogging and yoga.
