The Montague on the Gardens

Whether it be traditional Southern cuisine or an all-American barbeque, London has some truly delicious US-inspired restaurants to satisfy any trans-Atlantic cravings that might arise. Scattered around the city, we’ve created a guide to the best American restaurants London has to offer and they’re all easily accessible from The Montague on the Gardens.

The Colony Grill Room

If you’re feeling in the mood for a more New York-style dining experience, then look no further than The Colony Grill Room. Modelled after the classic grill rooms that brought American dining to England, The Colony Grill Room offers a choice menu including the usual suspects of Macaroni Cheese and Buttermilk Fried Chicken alongside seafood, salads, sandwiches and a range of classic American desserts. If looking for a recommendation, then you can’t go wrong with the grilled lobster to complete The Colony Grill Room’s opulent atmosphere.

The Fat Bear

A 15-minute stroll from The Montague on the Gardens will bring you to The Fat Bear, London’s answer to anyone looking for classic American comfort cuisine. Featuring a traditional Southern menu and charming, rustic interiors, The Fat Bear is known for its Seafood Jambalaya of creole rice and shellfish. Equally notable is its Vegan Gumbo and its delicious Corn-Fed Fried Chicken & Waffles makes The Fat Bear an obvious contender for London’s best Southern American restaurant. Head back to The Montague on the Gardens after your meal for a selection from its specialty cigar menu.

Avenue

London’s slickest American restaurant, Avenue is very popular for its extensive wine list. On entering, you will find it hard to not fall in love with its chic interiors as modern art and sculpture are displayed throughout the restaurant, contributing to its Manhattan-inspired atmosphere. The menus here are varied and delicious, but to truly experience Avenue is to opt for a selection from its brunch offering, with unlimited bubbles of course.

Balthazar

The first Balthazar restaurant opened in New York in 1997 and the London outpost aims to bring a slice of Manhattan to Covent Garden. The menu and restaurant interior may be French brasserie-inspired but plenty of American spirit and influence has been thrown into the mix, too. The Balthazar Hamburger is hard to beat, as is the macaroni cheese made with Comté, and the assortment of ice cream flavours includes much-loved classics such as rocky road, apple pie and marshmallow are exceptionally difficult to resist.

Dirty Bones

When only comfort food will do, head to one of Dirty Bones’ London restaurants. With branches in Soho, Kensington and Shoreditch, there’s plenty of opportunity to get your fix of classic American dishes. Designed as a New York diner, guests can expect a lively atmosphere and a hearty menu. Begin with small plate starters of Cheeseburger Dumplings and Mac Balls and follow it up with some deliciously sticky Beef Short Rib Tacos, exemplary Crispy Fried Chicken or a flavour-packed hot dog with all the trimmings. There’s an excellent vegan burger, and who can resist a peanut butter cookie cup for dessert?
