August might have come to an end, but London’s balmy evenings will continue for weeks to come. Never far from one of Red Carnation Hotels’ London properties, the capital’s sizzling September events are as fiery as the midsummer sun. Our favourite events include al fresco festivals, one-off productions and river races, all of which take place before the leaves have had a chance to turn golden.
London Design Festival
Each year, London lays on a cutting-edge series of exhibits and events across the capital. The annual festival spans several inner-city locations and incorporates works from across the globe. Large-scale landmark installations display free of charge, while the V&A hosts a dynamic daily schedule. Spy projects in the windows of boutique stores, attend DesignJunction or visit 100%Design to uncover leading 21st century innovations.15th – 23rd September 2018

Pearly Kings and Queens Harvest Festival
Prepare to see Morris dancing, maypole dancing, marching bands and sequin-lined costumes to match at Guildhall Yard’s traditional Pearly Kings and Queens Harvest Festival. To celebrate the collecting of the crop every autumn, the charity group don their best dark suits, decorated intricately with sparkly pearl buttons, and parade through the streets to the thanksgiving service at St Mary Le Bow Church.

Antony and Cleopatra
Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo take the parts of Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra at the National Theatre throughout September. Directed by Simon Godwin, this powerful tragedy is a beguiling mix of politics and passion and an ill fated love affair between two of the ancient world’s most legendary leaders.1st September – 1st October 2018

The Great River Race
Watch over 330 crews, from dedicated athletes to novices, take on London’s historic river marathon. The best vantage points for spectators are Tower Bridge, Westminster Bridge (suspended within walking distance of Hotel 41) or Richmond Bridge, which rests right before the fight to the finish.
