History

A distinctive landmark located on Sloane Terrace, moments away from the elegant boutiques of Sloane Street, the building first opened its doors in 1907 as a church. Designed in an eye-catching Byzantine style by architect Robert Fellowes Chisholm, the church had fallen in decline by the latter years of the 20th century and the venue was purchased by renowned Chelsea property company Cadogan Estates in 2000.

A special partnership

At the same time, it just so happened that the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Orchestra was in search of a permanent home in London. Viewed as one of the UK’s most acclaimed orchestras, the two organisations decided that this partnership was a chance to revitalise the dilapidated venue and help make it a centre of the community once again. Reopened in 2004, after an extensive renovation project which included installing an innovative new sound system and fine-tuning the acoustics, the 950 capacity hall quickly became one of London’s most acclaimed concert venues.

Today, Chelsea’s Cadogan Hall is well known for its inspired and eclectic offering of musical events. Its annual programme typically encompasses a wide array of musical genres, from beautifully executed chamber recitals to bold performances by West End stars and celebrated international violinists. There is always something to suit every taste and the venue’s 2019 calendar is set to be a stellar line up.

2019 programme

The new year sees the return of Zurich International Orchestra Series, now celebrating its 12th anniversary. It’s an event which includes performances from some of the world’s most prestigious orchestras at the Chelsea venue. In 2019, look out for performances from the Symphony Orchestra of India in February, as well as the Russian National Philharmonic Orchestra in March. Led by acclaimed conductor Vladimir Spivakov, the Russian musicians will perform some national treasures, including Shostakovich’s Symphony No.9 and Symphony No. 5 by Tchaikovsky.

Additionally, 2019 also marks the debut performance of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra at Cadogan Hall. Scheduled for April, the hotly anticipated concert will feature Brit Award and BBC Young Musician of the Year winner Sheku Kanneh-Mason who will perform Elgar’s Cello Concerto.
