While staying in a Red Carnation property is the definition of elegance on land, how about something for people who adore being on water? Our sister company, the Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection, is to water what we are to land. With 18 ships, serving 23 countries on three continents, Uniworld is the undisputed expert in providing its guests with the beautiful river experiences that they deserve. Expanding its ever popular European routes in 2017, Uniworld has unveiled its new masterpiece, a unique super ship, the S.S. Joie de Vivre.
The stunning vessel will be launched in March 2017 to cruise along the majestic River Seine in France, taking in all of the wonderful sights and sounds of Paris and the French countryside along the way. Uniworld was one of the first companies to provide river cruises in France, so the S.S. Joie de Vivre is the culmination of years of history and a sign of the company’s continued commitment to providing unrivalled luxury on French waterways.
The S.S. Joie de Vivre will sail the signature Paris & Normandy itinerary, which takes in the capital city before setting sail north along the Seine towards the coast. Passengers can visit the Palace of Versailles, infamous home of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, as well as Richard the Lionheart’s Chateau Gaillard. From the medieval capital of Rouen to the famous Utah and Omaha beaches of WWII in Normandy, history buffs will have plenty to see. Art lovers can enjoy Monet’s home in beautiful Giverny, while foodies will be able to savour the UNESCO-recognised “world intangible heritage” that is French gastronomy at La Couronne restaurant, where Julia Child experienced her first meal in the country on one of Uniworld’s specially themed ‘Connoisseur Collection’ sailings, created to celebrate France’s outstanding cuisine, wine and produce.
Built at a length of 125 metres, which allows Uniworld’s new Super Ship to dock in the centre of Paris, the S.S. Joie de Vivre will carry no more than 128 passengers in its two Royal Suites, eight Junior Suites and 54 staterooms. The suites are all uniquely designed with bespoke furnishings, custom-made beds by Savoir of England and marble-lined bathrooms, and will be served by butlers trained to the same exacting standards as those at Buckingham Palace.
As with other ships in the Uniworld fleet, the Red Carnation design team was brought in to make the interiors of the S.S. Joie de Vivre as beautiful as the surroundings of the Seine, with French-inspired furniture and rich fabrics. The ship’s Salon de Beaux-Arts lounge is a haven of fine taste with an incredible curated collection of art and antiques from the auction houses of Sotheby’s and Christies, as well as from private collections. The team paid particular attention to the dining venues, and Le Restaurant Pigalle, Bistro Saint-Germain and Café Flore each have their own unique personalities.
The kitchens of the S.S. Joie de Vivre will produce food that is a true culinary reflection of the furnishings. Flawless farm-to-table cuisine and local wines will ensure that the vessel embodies the “joy of living” that is the essence of the French spirit. At La Cave de Vins, the vinoteque, exquisite local produce will be paired with superb French vintages, creating an exceptional dining experience.
Everything is taken care of, from airport transfers, port charges and gratuities to the stunning meals and unlimited beverages on board. Passengers will love the swimming pool, cinema, guided shore excursions, Wellness on the Water, and round-the-clock service. The creation of the S.S. Joie de Vivre demonstrates, yet again, that Uniworld is the premier river cruise company in Europe and beyond. A voyage on the latest addition to its fleet will prove to be an unparalleled experience that pushes the boundaries of what is possible on water.
