The first major exhibition of Ai Weiwei’s work in the UK since his famous display of sunflower seeds at the Tate Modern in 2011, this upcoming show at the Royal Academy is without a doubt one of the most hotly anticipated September events in London. Very few artists are given such free reign within the hallowed halls of the RA, so expect to see some dazzling, innovative works.

Love fashion? London Fashion Week returns for its second iteration of the year this September to showcase the scintillating 2016 Spring/Summer fashions from global designers and renowned fashion houses, including Burberry, Christopher Kane and Erdem.

Held over nine days at venues across the capital, including the famed V&A, the London Design Festival will put some of the best and brightest design talent on display and host numerous cutting edge installations and exhibitions. Don’t miss the Mexican Pavillion in the John Madejski Garden created by acclaimed Mexican architect Frida Escabedo.

Africa Utopia

A celebration of African culture, Africa Utopia returns to the Southbank Centre for its third edition this year, with performances, literary readings and debates on a range of subjects concerning one of the most vigorous and compelling continents on earth.

Any round-up of September events in London has to include the Rugby World Cup, which returns to British shores for the first time since the ‘90s this year. An exciting young England side is set to face Fiji in the opening game, while the ever-impressive New Zealand team will be hoping to defend their 2011 crown.

BBC Proms in the Park

Now in its 20th year, BBC Proms in the Park is Britain’s largest outdoor classical music concert and the traditional closing event for the summer’s classical musical calendar. Join 80,000 attendees in Hyde Park for a very British evening of opera, orchestra and fireworks.
