Dive in at the deep end and make your first port of call Oxford Circus, home to the largest Topshop in the world. Continue with a stroll down to Selfridges, where parents and teens alike can happily while away the hours – you’ll find everything from designer handbags to artisanal chocolate. Teens are sure to enjoy perusing the street fashion and beauty rooms, whilst adults can either indulge in some shopping of their own or retreat to the solace of the Foodhall for a glass of Champagne.

Finish off with a visit to Camden, an essential stop in London for teenagers. As popular for its people watching as it is for its shopping, Camden sells everything from clothes to curiosities. When you’re fully laden with shopping bags, stop for a restorative cup of coffee on the canal or, for a sugar fix, head to nearby Chin Chin Labs for some innovative (and delicious) ice cream made using liquid nitrogen.

Although the prospect of a family dinner out might not necessarily fill every teen with joy, a visit to Inamo St James could well provide the perfect solution. A Pan Asian restaurant with a seriously unique selling point, Inamo combines innovative technology with delicious cuisine. With no wait staff, food is ordered interactively at the mere touch of a finger from a virtual menu that sees each dish projected onto the table in front of you. Watch the kitchen prepare your food via chef cam before the real thing arrives.

Seeing the sights of London on foot can prove to be a drawn out affair, often rendering teens bored and uninspired. Ignite their interest with London Rib Voyages, which offers cruises down the river, from Westminster Pier to the Thames Barrier, à la James Bond. Military-style speedboats will take you past all the sights, proving hands down that the most thrilling way to see the capital is at high speed and from the water.
