From the frenetic bustle of the West End to the cobblestone markets of Camden, London is a shopper’s dream where you can come across almost anything, should you know where to look. Along with a wealth of creative outlets, and some seriously cool eateries, this is a city that even the surliest teen will find hard not to enjoy. Located in the heart of the city, our luxury hotels provide the perfect base from which to explore the very best of London for teenagers.
Hit the shops
It is a truth universally acknowledged that teens love shopping, and as most visitors to London will know, this city is a global shopping capital.
Dive in at the deep end and make your first port of call Oxford Circus, home to the largest Topshop in the world. Continue with a stroll down to Selfridges, where parents and teens alike can happily while away the hours – you’ll find everything from designer handbags to artisanal chocolate. Teens are sure to enjoy perusing the street fashion and beauty rooms, whilst adults can either indulge in some shopping of their own or retreat to the solace of the Foodhall for a glass of Champagne.
Finish off with a visit to Camden, an essential stop in London for teenagers. As popular for its people watching as it is for its shopping, Camden sells everything from clothes to curiosities. When you’re fully laden with shopping bags, stop for a restorative cup of coffee on the canal or, for a sugar fix, head to nearby Chin Chin Labs for some innovative (and delicious) ice cream made using liquid nitrogen.
Dine at Inamo St James
Although the prospect of a family dinner out might not necessarily fill every teen with joy, a visit to Inamo St James could well provide the perfect solution. A Pan Asian restaurant with a seriously unique selling point, Inamo combines innovative technology with delicious cuisine. With no wait staff, food is ordered interactively at the mere touch of a finger from a virtual menu that sees each dish projected onto the table in front of you. Watch the kitchen prepare your food via chef cam before the real thing arrives.
Speedboat Ride Down the Thames
Seeing the sights of London on foot can prove to be a drawn out affair, often rendering teens bored and uninspired. Ignite their interest with London Rib Voyages, which offers cruises down the river, from Westminster Pier to the Thames Barrier, à la James Bond. Military-style speedboats will take you past all the sights, proving hands down that the most thrilling way to see the capital is at high speed and from the water.
Give your teens the chance to flex their creative muscles at one of the capital’s many venues championing artistic talent in young people. V&A Create! runs workshops, courses, and career-focussed events in photography, design, fashion and performance for those aged 13-19. For the arty set, Tate Collective London offers free events and festivals, plus a platform upon which to showcase their artistic work. And if your teens have a yen for music, media, or the performing arts, there’s also Camden’s famous live music venue, The Roundhouse, which offers events and experiences that will be right up their alley.
Catch a West End Show
It may be the quintessential tourist activity, but a trip to see a West End show remains one of the best things to do in London for teenagers. Whether you and your teens are theatre lovers, or simply want to experience the buzz of an opening night, book tickets for anything and everything from musicals to dramas. Alternatively, head over to The Unicorn Theatre near London Bridge for shows specifically tailored to young audiences.
Back in the luxurious environs of one of our boutique hotels, why not round off your active day out with a restorative mini-spa experience with your tired out teen? Or indulge in a delicious meal at one our delicious on-site restaurants?
