You may be out in the wilderness, but the raw, natural surroundings at Bushmans Kloof beg to be explored. From rolling plains and ancient rock formations to delicious local produce and enchanting wildlife, get inspired to discover the many charms of the Cederberg region with these captivating day trips from Bushmans Kloof.

Explore Cederberg at Sanddrif

Wilderness Adventure

Just under two hour’s drive from Bushmans Kloof, the Sanddrif resort sits at the base of the Cederberg Mountains, and makes the perfect location from which to explore them. Step out on a day hike or rock climb to witness the splendour of famous Wolfberg, Tafelberg and Lot’s Wife formations. There’s gentle or challenging routes for all fitness levels. Alternatively, take a refreshing dip in one of the Maalgat pools.

Take tea at the Rooibos Teahouse

Wilderness Adventure

Indigenous to South Africa, rooibos tea is one of the area’s most famous international exports. Just half an hour from Bushmans Kloof is the Rooibos Teahouse in Clanwilliam. The only rooibos teahouse in the world, it’s home to a wealth of rooibos flavours – peppermint, honeybush, chai and vanilla – as well as local arts and crafts.

Tread the Sevilla Rock Art Trail

Wilderness Adventure

Follow in the footsteps of the ancients along the Sevilla Rock Art Trail. One of the highlights of the Cederberg area, the trail is a self-guided 4km walk along the mountains, where you can take in the marvellous ancient rock art paintings estimated to be thousands of years old. You can obtain a hiking permit and more information at Traveller’s Rest Farm.

Go bird watching at Lambert’s Bay

Wilderness Adventure

Head west to the coast from Bushmans Kloof for a day trip to the quaint fishing town of Lambert’s Bay. Affectionately named the ‘Diamond of the West Coast’ thanks to talcum powder white beaches, Lambert’s Bay is famed for its abundance of birdlife including gannets and cormorants which you can spot at Bird Island Reserve. Before returning to Bushmans Kloof, dine on fresh seafood in a local restaurant.

Sample local wine at Cederberg Wine Estate

Wilderness adventure

To experience award-winning wines, travel to the Cederberg Wine Estate, set amongst the rugged mountains. Aside from breathtakingly dramatic scenery you’ll have the chance to taste wines from their six different ranges. Thanks to its high altitude, the vineyard benefits from a cooler Mediterranean climate and longer ripening periods which enhances the complexity of flavours in the grapes. If you’d like to really take advantage of their superlative hosting, spend a night at Sanddrif next door.

After an exhilarating day trip around the Cederberg, unwind in your luxurious suite at Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat.
