Fisheries Assistant

The Ashford Estate is looking for a Fisheries Assistant to join the team. You should have a proactive attitude, excellent communication skills and an approachable and friendly personality.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Support the Fisheries Manager in the patrol and monitor of the Cong River Fishery to ensure that all anglers are complying with the fishery rules and regulations at all times
  • Control the purchase and issue of fishing permits, as laid down by statutory regulations
  • Ensure that anglers comply with the catch number allocations and fish within pre-determined ‘fishing session times’ at all times
  • Maintain appropriate documentation & paperwork as required during daily duties
  • Monitor and protect the Cong River Fishery against unlawful poaching, liaising closely with Senior Management and taking appropriate action when necessary
  • Have an awareness of the Health and Safety and Security procedures of the estate and Cong River and ensure that these are adhered to
  • Work in conjunction with Hotel Management to maintain and further enhance this facility within the Hotel, ensuring that that all Ashford Estate guests receive the highest standards of service and personal attention
  • Providing the guest, at all times, with the highest levels of guest care and personal attention, where possible anticipating the guests needs and initiating actions to exceed expectations where possible

The ideal candidate for the Fisheries Assistant position is a self-starter who enjoys working on their own initiative. This is a casual seasonal position, therefore hours of work may vary, however all candidates would need to be available to work five days a week between Monday and Sunday.

The ideal candidate for the position should:

  • Previous experience (minimum of 1 year) within a similar fisheries role is preferable
  • Have strong communication skills
  • Have a friendly & outgoing personality
  • Have strong attention to detail & analytical skills
  • Have the ability to handle busy situations and manage your workload effectively
  • Be enthusiastic & flexible (available to work 5 days over 7 day period, inclusive of some weekends)
  • Be legally eligible to work in Ireland
  • Degree in Hospitality preferable, however not necessary
