Winemakers Dinner at Ashford Castle

Ashford Castle proudly unveils the new Winemakers Dinner Series for 2018 – a spectacular dining experience in the glorious surroundings of one of the most luxurious properties in the world.

On two exclusive evenings – January 25th and February 13th– Head Sommelier, Philip Dunne will be joined by two world-renowned Winemakers, Tariq Sakr of Chateau Musar (Lebanon) and Lilian Barton-Sartorius of Châteaux Léoville-Barton (St. Julien, Bordeaux). For centuries Ashford Castle has housed some of the world’s most exceptional vintages, with an impressive list of over 750 wines including the exclusive Bouchard Finlayson collection from South Africa. During the hotel’s extensive restoration, the Castle’s 16th-century coal tunnels were transformed into the impressive new Wine Cellars – a warm, ambient haven for guests.

Each Winemakers Dinner promises an unforgettable experience for an intimate gathering of only 40 guests, with a bespoke 7-course tasting menu served in the Connaught Room and prepared by Executive Chef, Philippe Farineau.

Chateau Musar, January 25th

On January 25th discover the magic of Musar with Chief Winemaker, Tariq Sakr. Chateau Musar, the cult-classic Lebanese winery is perhaps best known for its flagship red – produced in the Beqaa Valley, it is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan, each of which spends around 12 to 15 months in French oak barrels before they are blended and aged together for 3 years.

Guests will enjoy a Musar Jeune Rose Cocktail aperitif in the Wine Cellar from 6.30pm before being seated for dinner in the Connaught Room. Wines showcased on the night will include Musar Jeune Blanc, Chateau Musar Blanc, Hochar Pére et Fils, Musar Rouge 2006 and Musar Rouge Vintage.

This package is priced from €525.00 per night based on 2 people sharing and includes:

  • Overnight accommodation in a beautifully appointed Corrib Room
  • Exclusive Winemakers Dinner experience including a drinks reception at 6.30pm followed by a bespoke 7-course tasting menu and Chateau Musar wine pairings in the Connaught Room
  • A magnificent full Irish breakfast the following morning served in the George V Dining Room

This exclusive dining experience can also be enjoyed by non-residents of the hotel, priced at €150.00 per person.

Châteaux Léoville-Barton, February 13th

On the eve of St Valentine’s Day, fall in love with the classic French wines of Châteaux Léoville-Barton presented by Lilian Barton, Director and W. Located in the Saint-Julien appellation of the Bordeaux region of France, Châteaux Léoville-Barton and its sister property, Château Langoa Barton have been owned by the Barton family (of Irish descent) since 1826 boasting the longest continuous duration of ownership by the same family of any of the other current proprietors in Bordeaux.

Following a Lanson Pére et Fils NV aperitif in the Wine Cellar at 6.30pm, a specially curated 7-course tasting menu will be served in the Connaught Room from 7 pm alongside the La Croix de Barton Blanc, Mauvesin Barton 2012, Langoa Barton 2007, Leoville Barton 2004 and Leoville Barton 1999.
